2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS at the Autocross

This is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven at the autocross. Throttle response is immediate. It accelerates with vengeance. Sticks like superglue. And it pulls the skin off your cheeks under braking.

Contrary to popular belief, trailing throttle oversteer is very easy to manage with the 315 mm Hoosiers! Lift if you need rotation in a turn. Get on the gas if you've rotated enough. The only trouble I had with it is getting used to the really wide rear track. You never see or hear the cones. Hip-checks only. You feel like a hero until you stop by the tent to get your time and the Announcer goes "You swiped 3 cones with the rear of the car by the end of the first runway and we stopped counting..." Thanks -- it really doesn't matter when you're having so much fun!

And here are the Results form the event.

  2. You know, It's Not Easy Being Green but Kermit does OK. I'll take the GT3 RS even in pink and be happy with it.

  3. My wheels started turning on the color choice so I looked up the colors for the GT3: http://www.gt3rsregistry.com/docs/images/options/colors/normal.jpg. I think silver and orange looks fantastic!

  5. Ha ha! Vid is my third run. I dropped a tenth on my last run but not enough for FTD.
Christo Pretty sure Kermit was running on very spent Hoosiers the day you drove him.

  7. Awesome! Reminds me of the last time I rode in that car. The best part is the sound. So angry!!!

  8. Yeah, totally! Get-out-of-my-way! NOW!

  9. Sound is very muted on the vid because Kermit's 3.6 really wailed going through the lights. Think your coupe could stuff the 18" 315s under the rear fenders without rolling them?

  10. Yes, it's way louder than the sound the GoPro camera picks up. Maybe next time we'll stuff the camera right behind the exhaust, LOL!

The M Coupe's rear fenders are maxxed out at 275 mm. I'd have to take the fenders out to be able to fit 315s :o) On a second thought, I may be pinging you back for tools to do that!!

  11. You could do it, Christo. Anything is possible with a Sawzall!

  12. Haha, got me interested enough to look up prices for Sawzalls. $30 only. Wheels are turning :o)

  13. Wow, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is getting nearly as many votes as all cars combined in the "Money No Object" poll on the right!
