Lime Rock's Christmas Special: A Grand a Day to Drive Your Own Car!!

Lime Rock Park has published the following press release (I am not making up any of this!)

Press Release (also suitable for Christmas Gift Guides)

A Unique, Unusual Holiday Gift…
How about driving your own car on a world-famous race track?

For $995, you can drive your own car at high speed - with a private instructor sitting "right seat" - on Lime Rock Park's iconic race track.

LAKEVILLE, Conn. (November 2011) – For the first time in its 55-year history, Lime Rock Park is offering the opportunity for anyone to drive their own street car on the famous 1.5-mile road course in Lakeville, Conn., for $995. Private professional coaching and catered meals come with the four hours of guaranteed track time, all part of an exclusive Track Day package provided by the Lime Rock Drivers Club, the automotive and racing country club based at Lime Rock Park.

There are no pre-requisites other than being 18 or older and having a valid driver’s license.

Lime Rock Park is in Litchfield County, Conn., in the state’s northwest corner, about 100 miles from both New York City and Boston, Mass. The motorsports park, built in 1957 and substantially unchanged since, is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

The $995 Club driving package includes liability insurance, one-on-one professional coaching, helmets, food, beverage and the use of the private Club Chalet.

For inquiries or to purchase a Lime Rock Park Track Day Holiday Gift Certificate, contact (Name Withheld).

Track Day car insurance is recommended (though not required) and can be purchased through (Name Withheld).

It's comforting to know that the fee includes liability insurance to protect the track itself but too bad the M5 owner pictured above would have to buy his own insurance separately (optional). And for a grand a day, the food and drinks at lunch better be damn good! Yes, I'd like another free Shirley Temple, please. Does that private Club Chalet offer a full body massage with a happy ending as part of the package too?

  1. Hands-down the most overpriced track day I've seen. NASA / SCCA / NARRA all have HPDE events at 1/3rd the cost for 2 days of driving, instructors, etc - all with your own car!

For $995, I'd expect to be using a track owned car (e.g. when getting a comp license you have the option of using the schools car).
