Lexus Bows: A December to Forget

There is no bigger joke in the entire automotive ad industry than the tacky, douchey, gaudy Lexus brand's "December to Remember" sale featuring a red bow on each car. We can all agree to that. But what surprised me to find out is that historically, thanks to this ridiculously annoying ad campaign, Lexus has sold more cars in December than any other month of the year. Does anyone really know of someone else whose spouse bought them a Lexus with a bow as a Christmas present?

Wouldn't a grown-up man want to choose their own car and options? It's not like this present comes with a gift receipt and the dealer would take it right back for a full refund if you decide to return it. And isn't a 50k present obscenely expensive and totally against the Christmas spirit? Maybe this obnoxious ad campaign only works for flashy people with poor taste looking for a last minute tax write-off. Either way, it's a December to forget...

  1. Come on Christo, you must be familiar with the "Real Housewives of Orange County" types :-)

  4. I bought myself a Christmas present car - a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo that I picked up December 24th, 2003. Unfortunately, in all the rush to get it I neglected to get anything of substance for my wife that Christmas. It took nearly a full year for her to start speaking to me again, and at that it was only after liberal application of copious amounts of day spa gift certificates and Coldwater Creek gift cards. I can attest to the negative effect that little adventure produced...

  5. Sorry, but I found your post and wanted to share this. It's a parody of the commercial I think you'd get a kick out of.

  6. Acting's not bad but it's too neurotic. Only Seinfeld made neurotic look funny IMO...

  7. You must not be their target demographic. They do sell more cars in December than any other luxury mfg. so they must be doing some thing right...
