Bernd Rosemeyer - Full Flight

Source: Hulton Deutsch Collection

Germany's Bernd Rosemeyer takes the chequered flag at Donington Park in England, 1937, with an average speed of 82.86 mph. It was to be his last victory as he was killed the following year while attempting a world speed record. It's amazing to think how fast these drivers were going at the time with little or no safety equipment at all...

  1. Rosemeyer drove for Auto Union; that's a W125 Mercedes-Benz with Manfred von Brauchtisch at the wheel.
