This Is What A Brake Failure at 140 MPH Feels Like
Hat Tip to Tom R.
This is pro driver Dylan Murcott doing pre-season testing for the 2014 IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge around Daytona in the Mitchum Motorsports BMW 128i. You can skip directly to 1:38 to see the brake failure or even better, watch from the beginning to get a real sense for how exceptionally fast and unexpectedly this happens at 140 MPH.

This Is What A 365 Looks Like
Wow, this is what 365s looke like! I always thought 335 was the max size and that anything above that only went on steamrollers. Or as Ezra Dyer says, "I don't know metric but that's like two Camaros in American"

An E36 Bites The Dust at a Zandvoort HPDE
Ouch! Braking and turning has to be done in the right mix so it won't exceed 100% of the tires' traction. And why take the risk of getting out of the car on a live track?! Do you really think the rescue workers won't notice the carnage and they'll just keep driving down the track?

One of The Most Controversial Calls of Recent Memory
This incident happened on the last lap of the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona and it was probably the most exciting part of the entire race. The Ferrari was penalized for avoidable contact even though the video conclusively proves that there was no contact between the two cars. This was a gut punch for the Ferrari team, especially considering that a Ferrari has not won at Daytona since 1998!!
The decision was later reversed with this statement by Scot Elkins, IMSA Vice President, Competition and Technical Regulations:
A full post-race review of the incident on the last lap of the 52nd Rolex 24 At Daytona was completed by IMSA Supervisory Officials. The decision has been made to reverse the decision by the race director, rescind the penalty against the No. 555 Level 5 Motorsports Ferrari 458 Italia team, and reinstate drivers Scott Tucker, Bill Sweedler, Townsend Bell, Jeff Segal and Alessandro Pier Giuidi as the GT Daytona class winners. We regret the confusion following the race, and appreciate the patience by our fans, drivers, teams and the media so we could properly review and subsequently report this decision.
So what's your take on the decision - was it right or wrong? Was the Audi ahead of the Ferrari when it went off? Did the Ferrari leave enough space for the Audi?

The Worst "10 Best Racing Movie Ranking" of All Time!
We searched high and low and found the worst racing movie ranking of all time! The ranking, titled The 10 Best Car-Racing Movies of All Time includes Speed (a movie about a girl driving a BUS!), Smokey & The Bandit (cross-country booze smuggle) and comedy Talladega Nights. Missing from the list are real racing movies like LeMans, Grand Prix, Winning, Death Race 2000, Six Pack, Gumball Rally, Heart Like A Wheel, Herbie!, and amazingly, even Senna (thank you, Carl H. for pointing these out). It's doubtful the person who put together this "car-racing" ranking has even sat in a real race car. This is a list of good (and some great!) movies, but a title like "Movies With Fast Cars in Them" would have been more suitable.
What do you think -- what does your real car-racing movie ranking look like?

Lime Rock Park: Mythbusting in Detroit
Lime Rock Park just distributed this communication to clear a few things up. It's a good read, especially for those planning track events there in 2014.
Top to bottom: May 23-25, Memorial Day, Aug. 28-Sept. 1, Labor Day; Sept. 19-20, Season Finale
Skip Barber... Mythbuster!
Skip Barber is at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Yesterday, he ran into a colleague who is close to but not in the racing business. He asked Skip, "Hey, so what's Lime Rock doing since it doesn't have any races this year?"
All Skip could do was muster a bemused smile... perplexed how even knowledgeable people can harbor misconceptions of that sort.
So Skip thought now would be a good time for Lime Rock Park to bust a few myths.
Herewith...
Myth: "Lime Rock Park doesn't have any races this year."
Actual: The net result for Lime Rock of the merger of Grand-Am and ALMS is that we went from hosting five major events to three, and those three – IMSA Continental Tire Sports Cars/Porsche GT3 Cup, Historic Festival 32 , and the Trans-Am Season Finale – are big-field, exciting, solid race weekends, all with excellent support races. As usual, there are also the two SCCA races, including the NARRCS, a Lime Rock staple for more than 50 years.

We Want The Jeep That Passes The Angry Yak Test!
I'm sure you've all seen the stern warning from the Swedish magazine that conducted the infamous Moose Test: "Stop selling this car, Jeep!" We agree and we recommend that Jeep should replace its current Grand Cherokee model with THIS Jeep Cherokee XJ-R. The XJ-R not only passes the moose test with flying colors; it kicks ass at the autocross and even a dozen of angry yaks couldn't flip it over!

Parkng Rates for Exotic Cars Are only $422.39 Extra?
These are the parking rates at one of the cheaper undeground parking garages in midtown New York. So exotic cars are almost twice the rate for regular cars ($1,050 per month after tax). I wonder what the definition of an exotic is. Does a Posche GT3 RS fall into that category? How about a Lotus Elise? Oh, it's good to know that if you own an SUV, it's only $84.48 extra. Wonder what they charge for exotic SUVs...
